Long, low and ready to plant. The tidy edge your garden needs.

Troughs are made for running under a window, along a fence or squaring off a patio, and ours arrive fully finished and ready to fill.

Built in our Kent workshop from solid Northern European softwood.

Free UK delivery, and every planter arrives fully assembled. Add compost and plant the same day.

Timbac edible-safe finish, 2-year full guarantee, 90-day free returns.

The full story.

A trough planter has one job: give roots a long, deep run of soil so herbs, salads and seasonal colour can actually thrive along a wall, path or balcony edge. Most don’t. The cheap ones arrive as a flat-pack weekend project, are built from thin timber that wicks water, and rot from the base within two winters.

Ours are different. Every Trelush trough is made in our Kent workshop from solid, wide-plank timber, and it turns up fully assembled, with no bags of screws, no instructions and no wobble. We finish and construct them so water drains instead of pooling in the joints, which is where a wooden planter usually starts to rot. And because there’s no plastic liner leaching into the soil, they’re genuinely safe to grow food in.

The Hastings is our black wide-plank trough, built for the spots where a standard pot looks lost: running under a window, along a fence line, or squaring off a patio. It comes in three lengths (2ft, 3ft and 4ft), all the same generous depth, so you can match it to the space rather than the other way round.

Every trough is covered by our 2-year full guarantee, with 90-day free returns, and delivered fully assembled across mainland UK. See also our raised bed planters and the full wooden planters range.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Got questions? We've got answers. If we missed yours, just drop us a line.

Which trough should I choose?

The Hastings is our wide-plank black trough, in 2ft, 3ft and 4ft lengths, with a low, architectural look. The Cotswold is a reeded design with a finer ribbed face. Pick the Hastings for bold and modern, the Cotswold for softer and more traditional.

What fits under a window?

Measure the width of your sill and go one size under it. A 2ft trough suits most cottage windows, a 3ft suits a standard double window, and a 4ft runs nicely under a wide modern pane or along a fence line.

What should I plant in a trough?

Lavender, herbs, trailing geraniums, bulbs in spring and cyclamen in winter all work beautifully. Because the shape is long and shallow rather than deep, it suits plants that spread rather than plants that need a deep root run.

Is it safe for herbs and edibles?

Yes. Every trough is finished with Timbac, our own non-toxic, water-and-wax-based treatment, safe around edibles, pets and soil from day one. Window-box basil and thyme are exactly what it is for.

Will it rot sitting on a patio?

Timbac is formulated to slow water absorption, and every planter carries our 2-year full guarantee, which covers manufacturing defects and anti-rot.

Do the troughs arrive assembled?

Yes. Every trough is delivered as a finished planter. No flat-pack, no screws, no lost weekend. Open the box, fill it and plant it.

Can I move it once it is planted?

A 2ft trough moves easily. Once a 3ft or 4ft trough is full of wet compost it is a two-person lift, so set it where you want it before you fill it.

How quickly will my trough arrive?

Order before 12 noon and we dispatch the same day from our Kent workshop, with delivery in 2 to 3 working days. UK delivery is free.

What if I change my mind?

You have 90-day free returns on everything we make. If the trough does not suit the spot, return it within 90 days for a full refund.
