About this planter
🔨 Hand-built in our Kent workshop

Each Hastings is built by hand in our family workshop in Kent. We cut the wide-plank panels, fit the plastic liner, fix the slatted base, and ship the whole thing fully assembled on a courier. You don't see the workshop — but every Hastings came out of it.

🌱 Safe for everything you grow

The timber is treated with our own Timbac formula — non-toxic, not tanalised, with no harsh chemicals to leach into your soil. Plant edibles, herbs and salads from the day it arrives. Backed by a 2-year full guarantee on rot and manufacturing.

🪴 Wide-plank, lined, generously sized

A substantial outdoor wooden trough planter at around 24cm front-to-back and 26cm tall — solid wide-plank panel sides for a cleaner, more contemporary finish. The plastic liner inside protects the timber from wet soil; the slatted base underneath drains naturally. Best for shallow-to-medium-rooted plants — herbs, salads, strawberries, summer flowers, and dwarf shrubs.

Planter Features

DELIVERED FULLY ASSEMBLED Open the box, add soil, plant — no flat-pack, no missing screws, no Sunday afternoon lost to instructions.

STURDY ENOUGH TO LAST Solid Northern European softwood, slow-grown for density and built thick — wide-plank panels that hold their shape through more than one British winter.

SAFE FOR EDIBLES, PETS, AND CHILDREN Treated with our own non-toxic Timbac formula, never tanalised, so you can plant herbs, salads and tomatoes from day one without worrying about the soil.

NO ROTTING FROM WET SOIL A plastic liner sits inside the panels so wet soil never touches the timber — the same trick experienced gardeners do by hand with roofing felt, built in as standard.

NATURAL DRAINAGE BUILT IN Gaps between the bottom slats let water drain straight through, and the base sits slightly raised off the ground so nothing puddles around the roots.

SOLID WIDE-PLANK CONSTRUCTION Panel sides instead of slats — a cleaner, more contemporary finish that suits patios, feature corners, and modern garden styles.

HAND-BUILT IN OUR KENT WORKSHOP Cut, lined, and assembled by a small family team in Kent — not stamped out in a factory or shipped in from a container port.

2-YEAR FULL GUARANTEE Rot, manufacturing and structural — all covered, no exclusions or small print, and if something goes wrong we put it right.

90-DAY FREE RETURNS Three months to decide whether the planter works in your garden. Free returns on everything, including the 4ft — we'll arrange collection.

REAL PEOPLE WHEN YOU NEED THEM Ring our Kent workshop and someone who built it picks up — no call centre, no ticket numbers, no hold music.

Why Thousands Choose Trelush.

Real stories from families who've made Trelush part of their garden.

Your planter comes from a workshop

Not a container port. Not a warehouse. Every planter is built in our own Kent workshop by a small family team. You're buying from the people who made it.

Solid through, not flat-pack fiction

Slow-grown Northern European softwood, thick-cut and assembled by hand. Not chipboard with a grain print, not a pressed-panel kit pretending to be timber.

Safe because we treat it ourselves

Timbac is our own non-toxic timber treatment - not tanalised, no harsh chemicals. Plant edibles from day one, with no chemical wait.

Delivered assembled, ready to plant

Almost every planter in our range arrives fully built. Open the box, add soil, plant. No flat-pack instructions, no lost bolts, no Sunday afternoon gone.

If it fails, we fix it - for 2 years

Rot, build, manufacturing — all covered. No exclusions, no small print. We made it. We stand behind it.

A real British business

Proud member of the Made in Britain campaign. Not a logo on imported goods - every planter genuinely made here, in Kent.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Got questions? We've got answers — and if we missed yours, just drop us a line.

Does the Hastings trough arrive fully assembled?

Yes — every size in the Hastings range arrives fully built, including the 4ft. There's no flat-pack, no tools, and no instructions to lose. Open the box, add soil, plant. We hand-assemble each one in our Kent workshop and ship it ready to go.

How long will it last?

With normal care, comfortably beyond the 2-year full guarantee. The timber is slow-grown Northern European softwood, fitted with a plastic liner inside that stops wet soil rotting the wood. Re-treat lightly with oil or wood preserver every couple of years and it stays in shape for years.

Is the timber treatment safe for vegetables and herbs?

Yes. We treat every Hastings with our own Timbac formula, which is non-toxic and not tanalised. There are no harsh chemicals to leach into the soil, so it's safe to plant edibles, herbs, salads, and fruit from the day it arrives.

What can I plant in it?

Anything shallow-to-medium-rooted — herbs, salads, strawberries, summer flowers, small bulbs, alpines, low-growing perennials, and dwarf shrubs. Very deep-rooted vegetables like potatoes, carrots, parsnips, or leeks would do better in a deeper raised wooden planter.

How long does delivery take?

Order before 12 noon on a working day and we dispatch the same day from our Kent workshop. UK mainland delivery takes 2–3 working days from there. Free over £99.

How does the Hastings differ from the Sussex slatted range?

Same timber, same Timbac treatment, same Kent workshop, same 2-year guarantee — different look. Sussex has slatted sides; Hastings has solid wide-plank panels for a cleaner, more contemporary finish. Hastings is also slightly bigger — around 240mm front-to-back and 260mm tall, versus Sussex's 215 × 244mm. Pick by visual preference and placement.

Won't wooden planters rot quickly?

Not with ours. The timber is treated with Timbac before it leaves the workshop, and the plastic liner inside the panels keeps wet soil away from the wood. The slatted base also drains naturally so nothing puddles. The 2-year guarantee covers rot regardless.

Does the planter come with a built-in liner?

Yes — a plastic liner is fitted inside before it leaves our Kent workshop. It runs along the long sides and keeps wet soil away from the timber. The slatted base underneath lets water drain straight through.

What's your returns policy?

90-day free returns on everything we sell, including the 4ft. If the planter isn't right for your garden, get in touch and we'll arrange collection at no cost. Refund in full once it's back with us.

Can I add legs or feet to lift it off the ground?

Yes — we sell a matching set of legs separately as an optional accessory. Out of the box the planter sits flat on the ground but the slatted base is already raised slightly, so drainage isn't a problem. Legs are useful if you'd rather lift it higher or set it on a surface where you'd prefer no contact.
