Each Square Sussex is built by a small family team in Kent. We cut the slats, fit the panels, drill the drainage, and pack five pieces flat for easy courier delivery. The build is yours to assemble — no specialist tools, no carpentry skills, just a screwdriver and around ten minutes.

A 50cm-wide square planter at over 40cm internal depth — enough volume for a young dwarf fruit tree, a cluster of root vegetables, or a permanent shrub. Pre-drilled drainage holes in the base let water through naturally. Best for medium-to-deep-rooted plants — potatoes, carrots, dwarf trees, mature shrubs, large herbs, and feature plantings.

I bought 3 x 3ft planters to edge the patio off. Perfect sizing Info. Arrived fully assembled.
They look good and feel solid. Im really happy with them.
Not sure if they've been treated or not, so may need to do that to stop them rotting. Gap at the bottom for water flow.

I don't do reviews, however these planters seem pretty sturdy and worth the money. Closest I could get was from b&q which were £3 more. Not put anything in them yet but looks like they will last. They don't have many reviews but I'd buy them again.

Arrived within a few days of ordering, fabulous quality, I ordered the tan one because they were out of stock of black but I painted it a dark grey and it looks fab, the ferns are in and have hellebores to add, brightens up a dark corner

I couldn't be happier with these planters, there made of good solid pine and look great, I rarely go to the trouble of taking pics for a review, I only do so if I'm extremely unhappy with a purchase or as thankfully is the case this time extremely happy. Internal planting depth is around 40cm, which is significantly deeper than our slatted trough range. That's enough for medium-to-deep-rooted plants: potatoes, carrots, parsnips, larger herbs, mature shrubs, and dwarf fruit trees. Soil capacity is roughly 80–100L.

Not when it's built thick. The Square Sussex is solid Northern European softwood — the same timber we use across our slatted range — slow-grown for density and assembled with reinforced corner joints. Once it's together, it's a rigid cube that takes British weather without warping.

Not quickly. The timber is treated with Timbac before it leaves the workshop — a non-toxic preservative that protects against rot and decay. The pre-drilled drainage holes prevent waterlogging at the base. The 2-year guarantee covers rot regardless.

No — the Square Sussex is solid-panelled with pre-drilled drainage in the base, so a liner isn't needed for soil containment. If you want to extend the timber's lifespan further, a layer of weed membrane against the inside walls works well; many of our customers add one.

Yes — we sell a matching set of legs as a separate accessory. Out of the box the planter sits flat on the ground, with pre-drilled drainage so puddling isn't a concern. Legs are useful if you want stronger visual presence, want to set it on a surface where you'd prefer no direct contact, or want better airflow underneath in a damp spot.
